GOTHIKA: The Dead Man’s Party 2012

It’s that time again, freakmonkeys.  The infamous Club Gothika Dead Man’s Party is here once again at its usual date and time (that would be October 31 at 10pm SLT, if you didn’t know already.)  The gang of misfits will be celebrating amateur hour with prizes from Beautiful Freak Cosmetics, Dare Designs, House of Rain, and {MV} in the Best In Halloween contest.
As always, the party starts at 10 and ends when everyone falls over.  Yeah, yeah I know it’s October and not May, but still- come get your goth on.

Here’s the ride: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Cursed/39/208/23

OOPSKATE 2012: Done, podcasted, photos posted, and donated.

Another Oopskate has hit the books.  As happens. Oop himself spent the weekend feeling a bit under the weather but is fine now and back to his usual self.

As to the event itself, I want to thank all the merchants who so generously donated their time and product, all the people who came for supporting it, and of course as always the Gothika staff for being awesome and then some.

My Oopskate 2012 photos are here.

The podcast is here.

The money has now been cashed out and collected, as follows:

This is the collected total from the charity account dashboard.  I then cashed that amount out via virwox (for the sake of speed) and then to paypal.

And then, I sent that amount to the American Porphyria Foundation.

Thanks again everyone! Oopy says thank you too. :)

See you next year.

OOPSKATE update.

Two bits of info!

Drusilla Dethly, the owner of The Little Bat got in touch to tell me she’s throwing down to get in on Oopskate also and will have items there from her store as well.  Her shop was insanely popular during World Goth Fair, so if you love that Little Bat style, come on down and see what she brings with her!

Also, I got a photo from Lilah Munster of Chaos, Panic & Disorder, showing me what she’s bringing with her to Oopskate.  It’s SO CUTE, gang. :)

More info as I have it!

Club Gothika: OOPSKATE 2012 INFORMATION

Hi gang,

It’s that time of year again.  Club Gothika is getting ready for Oopskate, the annual blowout birthday bash for a real life cat.  But Im getting ahead of myself. I should explain.

One of my cats (RL cats, that is) has his birthday on June 15.

Every year on that day, Gothika throws him a goth/industrial/ebm roller skating party.  Despite the fact that I don’t think Rupert can roller skate, we continue to do this year after year.

Well it’s June again, and once again, all proceeds from Oopskate go to charity.  This time, we’re donating all proceeds to the American Porphyria Foundation.

Porphyria is a rare, inherited blood disease.  It came to my attention that this would be a good idea after reading a blog post by Bliss Windlow, which you can read with its attendant comments here: http://intertwingled-intertwingled.blogspot.com/2012/03/in-envy-of-cancer.html

And you can read about what Porphyria is here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porphyria

The colors of this event are orange, purple and black. (Oopy is orange, porphyria is associated with purple, and black is well, black. All purpose goth color, don’tchaknow.) The contest is best in purple/orange (both, or either) and the prize is a giant stack of gift cards from sponsoring stores.

In addition, there will be special stuff for sale just for the one night from our awesome sponsoring stores:

The party begins at 10pm SLT and will go on until everyone decides to go home.

Your DJ: Bronxelf
Your Host: The Freakkitteh Herself, Ms Lokii Violet
Your Dancers: Rydia Suicide, Eden Malik, Mister Zero, and False Imako

Skates of course, will be provided for everyone for free if you dont have your own.

Come on out and wish Oop a happy birthday (he’s four!) and let’s raise some cash for a good cause.

00pzkate ’11: The Donation Update.

I promised everyone I’d post a photo of the receipt to prove the donation had been made.

00pzkate '11 donation

The take from Gothika last Wednesday was not all that was donated. At least one other person donated who was listening in remotely(Thanks, Tom.) There may have been more- I just have no way to know.

I will be putting out the Oop Star Lamp at the DGD mainstore and on Marketplace with all proceeds going to this fund in perpetuity.  It makes more sense to do that than simply remove it from availability, simply because if I do that, there will be no money going to them for it.

Thank you once again to the entire staff of Gothika who busted their asses to get this done and gave up their time, their hard work, and all their tips for this.  Thank you to everyone who donated. Thank you to all the merchants who created items to help raise money.

Support the scene that supports you.

To Charles, Kristine, and Eric: We hope the money proves useful.  :)

**IMPORTANT** 00pzkate ’11

Greetings, campers.

It’s June again, and that means that it’s time to haul out the DARKSKATE rink again for the best birthday party a cat could ever have. That’s right- it’s time for OOPSKATE.  But this year, it’s more than that.

(This is a copy/paste of the notecard contained within the event poster.)

Hi everyone,

Once again June has rolled around, which makes it time for OOPSKATE, the virtual birthday party for a real cat.

For those who have never been to an Oopskate before, it’s a dark electro/industrial roller skating event (at least it STARTS that way…where it ends is up for grabs) for Rupert, a real live cat, much beloved at Gothika. This year, we’re calling it 00pzkate, because we’re all about the 00tz 00tz, and he’s an oops oops.)

Rupert turns 3 this year, and as always there will be an insane party for him on his birthday, June 15 at 10pm SLT.

But this year there’s something else we want to do.

Charles Rehill, a member of the electro/synthpop band Lost Signal(a band often played in our club) recently had a nightmare befall his family.

His wife Kristine recently gave birth to their first child, 6 weeks prematurely.  Even though Kristine (and the baby) were insured to the tune of paying $1000USD a month for coverage that they believed was 80/20, the insurance company has refused to pay for a significant portion of the baby’s (Eric) hospital stay in NICU.  They have charged Charles and Kristine roughly $250,000USD (not a typo) for medical bills relating to the birth of their son.

Whether they pay the bill, or declare bankruptcy because of it (something they adamantly do not want to do) they need help, at the very least to afford the attorneys to fight the insurance company.

The Gothika staff have agreed to make this year’s 00pzkate a benefit to help in this fundraising effort.  I have asked Rupert if he minds, and he says doesn’t need more presents, since he has all the food and treats and toys and love and care he could ever want(and the world revolves around his fuzzy little navel anyway- how many cats can you name that get birthday parties?).  All proceeds raised at 00pzkate will be donated to Charles, Kristine and Eric via their Chip In account which you can see here:

http://ericshospitalbill.chipin.com/mypages/view/id/069174e0d879c644

Of course, you’re welcome to donate there as well. :)

As to the event itself:

The contest will be (as it always is) Best in Orange and DJed by DJ Bronxelf.  In addition, there will be exclusive items to buy from Dare Designs, Damned Good Design, Malfean Visions and Pie’s Half-Baked Goods. The proceeds will all go toward the fundraiser, and these will be items you cannot get anywhere else.

As always, free skates and birthday hats will be available to everyone!

The party will be held at the Darkskate Rink at Dark Eternity, which you can reach by using this LM the night of the event:

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dark%20Eternity/156/105/31

No matter how much we raise, it will help Charles, Kristine and Eric deal with this mess.

Thanks, and we’ll see you on the 15th!
-The Staff of Club Gothika

We don’t usually ask this, but every bit we collect will help them out.  So if you can plug, post, retweet, facebook, plurk, journal, WHATEVER IT IS YOU DO to get the word out about this, we’d appreciate it.

-But…But… What if I don’t have an SL account?

Well, you could make one if you like and come and join us (we’d love that!)  But if you just want to tune in from wherever you are, you can!  The Gothika stream is public.  You can tune into it that night right here:  http://aqua.neostreams.info:8036 and hit the “Listen” button which will download the .pls file (which can be opened in winamp or itunes or whatever it is you use to listen to music via your computer).

The DJ Bronxelf stream is also public and is published before each set via twitter @DJBronxelf.

-Do they know you’re doing this?

As of this writing, they have no clue. They don’t even know we exist(at some point they’re likely to find out, though), save a few staff members have donated privately to the chipin fund already.  The point is that they get the help they need.  The music we play at Gothika is a relatively (more or less) tight series of genres.  The people who make that music and their fans represent a very small community.  Even those who could be considered the “stars” are big fish in a small pond.  They’re not millionaires, they’re not rolling around bare ass naked in a room full of money.  They’re hard working men and women who love what they do KNOWING that their audience is, by comparison to many other genres, small.

We play this stuff every day.  We listen to it on our mobiles. We go see shows, and buy merchandise.  But right now, this is a bigger problem than usual, and Gothika, as a staff and group of friends(and we are), believe strongly in supporting the people who support us. Even if they don’t know us.  Because we know them, and we want them to be able to continue to make music, not panic on a minute by minute basis on how they’re going to find the money to deal with a problem like this.

-ETA: What if I have something I want to donate!

Sounds awesome! Get in touch.  IM Axi Kurmin or Dare Munro inworld, or shoot a tweet to @djbronxelf on twitter. We’re happy to include you.  Just bear in mind that 100% of the proceeds of the sale will be used toward the chipin fund.

We’re pleased to add PA Designs adorable Less Than Three tshirt to the items which will be sold at the event. Photo below:

(as soon as we get photos of other items for sale, including our own, we’ll post them here.)

If anyone has any questions please leave them in comments- we’ll do our best to answer them here- and I personally will post a copy of the receipt showing the money (no matter how much or little it is) that was sent to the Chipin fund for this via Paypal.

Just get the word out. We have a week.

Go.

Gothmas by Gaslight Wrap Party

Thirty days of hunting madness comes to an end with teh official wrap-up party for the First Annual Gothmas by Gaslight Hunt.
It’s been a great month and we have enjoyed working with all the vendors who joined us for this hunt – the people were great and the prizes were wonderful – and now we have a wrap-up event to cap it all off in style. Damned Good Design and Dare Designs are sponsoring DJ Lokii Violet for two hours of gothic goodness, with a ‘Best in Winter Goth’ contest (1000L on each contest board, which goes up as more people join in), an all new random prize raffle, a beautiful limited edition dress from Dare Designs, hot Gothika dancers, and more.

See you there. – DM

New Year’s Eve? Means only one thing.

Ok, two things, but we’re not discussing Dick Clark.

It means…

DARKSKATE.

Darkskate is BACK.  Dare’s rebuilt the rink just for this one. The contest is best in Futuristic and we’re kicking it off as always with 1000L on each board to start (and they only go up from there).  There will be a new tombola with stuff in it from Damned Good Design SL and Dare Designs, and the Club Gothika Mobile Unit will be there skating their creepy asses off.

The fun starts at 10 and ends… when it ends(because you can never tell with Darkskate.)

Don’t have any skates?  Don’t worry.  We do. Come on down and get yours for free at the venue.

See ya there, darkskaters. :)

—————

Here’s what you need to know about the hunt:

“You forgot to hook up the doll…”

Welcome to the Weird Science hunt!  Here’s what you need to know:

The hunt spans four sims- Dark Eternity, Gaslight,  Event Horizon and Cursed.

Cursed is an adult sim.  You must be age verified to get there. No, we aren’t going to change that.

For each vendor in the hunt, there are two prizes to be found. One will be hidden on the DE complex, and one will be hidden on Cursed.  There are 16 prizes in all.

Unlike other hunts, the boxes are not required to be in stores, or in fact required to be… well anywhere in particular.  They can be found *anywhere* on one of these four sims- in a store, in a tree, behind a rock.  They look like glowing green test tubes(we were originally going to use Pershing missles but figured you had to be over 30 to get that joke….)

This is what you're looking for. It's small. It's green. It glows.

However, there are some limitations you need to know about. On Cursed, the hunt prizes are limited to Cursed Village(the south side of the sim) and Cursed Harbor only. There are *NO* hunt boxes inside Club Gothika (the cemetery next to it is fair game, though) and there are **NO** hunt boxes on the residential(north) side of the sim.  Please *DO NOT* go onto the north side of the sim looking for boxes. People live there, and don’t take kindly at all to their homes being invaded by hunters.  There are “No hunters beyond this point” signs posted on the city gates. Please respect them, because we will immediately ban anyone who violates those boundaries.  There are *NO* hunt boxes located inside the loft on Dark Eternity, either.  Really.  Promise.

The boxes are numbered, but they are in no particular order. In fact, we hand them out at random.  So there’s no jumping from one to the next. It’s just “whichever one you happen to find just then.”  The numbers only serve to tell you which ones you’ve found and which you haven’t. Once again, there are sixteen in total.

There will be no hints. No group to join. No hint blog.  Have we mentioned no hints?  Right, that.  Please don’t shout out hint locations in local chat or reveal them in any of the sim groups.  We take that sort of thing very seriously and *will* (no question) ban you for doing it.   It’s not fair to your fellow hunters, nor is it fair to the vendors.

There will be an opening night and closing night party for the hunt.  The opening night event will be on Cursed on Friday October 15 from 8-10pm slt and DJed by The Freakkitteh, Lokii Violet.  The closing event will be on Dark Eternity, on Halloween Night, October 31 from 10pm-midnight and DJed by DJ Bronxelf.

ALL THIS BEING SAID- if you run into a problem with a vial NOT selling contents properly, or if you can’t find ONE (and no one else can either) for the love of all that’s good SOMEONE tell one of us. We won’t give you a hint, but we WILL make sure the vials are out and working properly.  Just leave a message if we’re not there.  IM is fine- offlines go to email anyway.  PLEASE don’t send a notecard. If we’re in busy mode we won’t know it exists until after we relog, which may not be until days later.

Here’s some landmarks you need to have:

Cursed Village

Event Horizon

Axis Park (on Gaslight)

Dark Eternity Island

Happy hunting!
Axi Kurmin
Dare Munro
(your harried hunt organizers.)
