Gothmas By Gaslight Hunter Info for 2011

Halllooo Hunters!  Hopefully this page will answer any burning questions you may have about the Gothmas by Gaslight Hunt for 2011 (GxG2).  We’ll be adding any others we commonly come across as we go along, because you never know what we’ll get asked most. But first, the ground rules- just so we’re all on the same page.

1.  The purpose of a hunt is to hunt.  If you don’t want to hunt, then you’re in the wrong place.  Complaining that it’s “too hard” will not endear you to anyone. It will, however, really annoy the merchants.

2. Do not badmouth the merchants. If we hear about it, we will ban you like a banned thing.  The merchants take their time, which is no less valuable than your own, to create something for people for the low, low price of free.  It’s the height of rudeness to bitch about it,  and we won’t tolerate it.

3.  DO NOT announce hunt locations in local chat.

Just so we’re clear on that. First of all, it’s disrespectful to other hunters.  You spoil their fun when you blow the hunt location.  Second of all, it’s disrespectful to the merchants(see point 2 above.).  While some merchants are easygoing about this, a lot of them really, really aren’t (including your harried hunt organizers), and we will cheerfully pass the names of those who do this amongst the vendors to do with as they choose.  This can easily result in being banned from several locations along the line.  While everyone makes mistakes and accidentally mistypes something in local they meant to say in IM from time to time, trust us here- we can tell the difference between an accident and a deliberate act.  Really. In addition, your fellow hunters will turn you in for doing this.  Don’t test this theory. You won’t like the results.

Now that those three things are clear…

THE FAQ FOR HUNTERS:

1. When does the hunt start and when does it end?

The hunt starts at midnight SLT on 15 December 2011 (so the moment the clock strikes midnight on the 15th, SLT).   It ends at midnight SLT on the 15th of January 2012.

3. I can’t get to a location because it’s on an Adult sim. What do I do?

You have two options.  1. Age Verify.  2. Skip that location and go on to the next one. The choice is yours.

4. What does the hunt box look like?

The hunt box is a tarnished brass bell with dark holly trim.

5.  What are the limits of where the bell can be found?

The bell must be located within 50 meters of the landing point of the store. The only exceptions to this are stores which cannot control their landing points. In that case they MUST provide adequate and CLEAR signage indicating how to get to the store.  The bell will be within 50 meters of the entrance.  It cannot be fully buried within another prim. At least part of it must be visible without camming.  Yes, merchants may use decoys if they like, but we limit them to no more than five.  If you find that a merchant is not in compliance with these rules, please let us know.

The range has been increased from 30m to 50m over last year. Why? Because many large stores (some of them ours…) are big enough that 30m barely covers the landing point, where there simply isn’t anything *there*, making the choices “redo the store for the hunt” or “increase the range.”  We think merchants have enough to do during the holidays, so we increased the range.

6. Can the bell be resized or retextured?

No, it cannot. It must be the exact same size, shape, brightness, texture and everything else it was when we handed it to the merchant.  If you find one that isn’t? Tell us.

7. Where is the hint page?

There is no hint page. We mean it. There really, truly and in all other ways is no hint page. Do not IM us for hints- we *will not* give them to you.  If the merchants at individual stores *want* to give out hints? They can do it in their stores, but there is absolutely no requirement of any merchant to provide a hint for you.

8. Is there a hunt group?

There is no hunt group for hunters. The only one we have is for merchants.

9. Can/Will the bells move location throughout the hunt?

Probably. It is at the discretion of the merchant as to whether or not they want to move their hunt prize.  We tend to move ours every couple days, or if someone spoils the location for others.

10. (before a flood of people ask me like last year) What are you wearing in the poster?

The dress is Dark December by Dare Designs, the makeup is by [MOCK] cosmetics and made by Mocksoup Graves.  The chandelier on my head was made by Coyote Momiji at .(bewildebeest)., and the hair is by JE*Republic and is called Sandra. (the shape and skin are mine.)
